Maramures is a geographical region and ethnocultural located in Romania and Ukraine, composed of Maramures Depression, located on the upper valley of the Tisza and slopes that surround it: mountains Oas, Gutai Tibleş and fruitful west and south, and The Maramures Mountains to the east and north. In the Maramures is a county formed by the territories of the historical regions of Maramures, Ardeal and Crişana (Partium), located in the north-west of Romania. It was established in 1968 by the territorial reorganization of the Maramures Region (from the districts of Şomcuta Mare, Baia Mare, Sighet, Lăpuş and Vişeu).
